Mojo Walker 03/05/2000 - 08/04/2007

Mojo Walker was our first greyhound.  You've heard of alpha dogs?  This regal boy was our omega dog- a shy, timid, understated lover.  What a joy to see his personality come out after a year in our home, and what a shock to lose him after two and a half short years.

The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.
To-day, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.

Lily Mae - 8/9/1997 - 6/6/2009

Snuggle Bunny Girl  - so many foster dogs have come through our doors, and each and every one of them would thank Lily Mae if they could.  She was the best foster mom they could ever have hoped for.  She readily shared her bed, or the cool kitchen floor if it was hot outside, shared the digging garden she adored, kiddie pool too, yet kept fosters in line if they thought too much of themselves.  Maybe because noises scared her too, she understood frightened dogs.  Maybe because she had a killer instinct, she understood aggression.  She would take on any critter who dared to mess with her, my lovely Lily.  It is why I had her wear pearls.  Bigger than many girls, she was my huntress, my beautiful bunny-soft snuggle bunny girl.  I often called her my white Lab because she liked to keep me company when I worked outside, loved to play in the lake, nothing better than a romp on a sandy beach.  Couldn't have asked for a better companion, while my other two were sleeping inside in the sun, Lily wanted to be with me.  Miss her every day, I suspect I always will.       Carole

In Motion - February 1, 1994 - December 6, 2006

In Motion: Son of Big Tar, Grandson of Benetar (hey it was the 80s)  February 1, 1994 - December 6, 2006  This photo of Mo (at one of the earliest NLGA picnics), is a testament to the beauty of black hounds! Cindy Hanson always said it best. "If Mo had a smoking jacket, he would say 'Hello Ladies'!" in his best imitation of Cary Grant. He passed away in my arms with Rodger helping him cross the bridge and Donna stroking his head.

Minnie (Val’s Miss Minnie)

Minnie (Val’s Miss Minnie)- My sweet little girl. The joy and excitement you greeted every glorious morning with always left me in awe. I told myself that was the way to live life. Joyful every moment. Your heart so big the love overflowed into every little nook and cranny in our home. The love in your eyes filled the empty places in my heart from loved ones lost. I believe Punky Bee sent you to us to heal my heart. You did just that. You brought out the best in us. You showed us what we were made of, as did Dutch and Punky. We did our best to care for you when you were nearing the end your time with us.

Your heart was so big because you were so full of love.

Thank you for being part of our family. I will always remember your love, your snuggles and you looking into my eyes. I will always remember you making your high-pitched “squeal-of-delight” right after I would ask you if you wanted to go for a “walkies.” I will think of you on quiet mornings, remembering your soft little sighs and snortles coaxing me out of bed to start the new glorious day. I will always remember you dancing and prancing as my reward for “getting it right” as to what you wanted the most “a walk” or “supper.”  I cherished you waiting for me at the top of the stairs whenever I walk in the house. I’ll always remember your loving spirit! – Love, Your Two-legged Mommy      I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart). I am never without it.  e.e. cummings

   Smiley (Ninetysixwonder) 03/30/1996 - 10/19/2009

Smiley was my angel boy.  He lived up to his name and had the biggest smile a greyhound could ever have.   His smile, chatter and circle wag (more like a helicopter) always made even the worst of days better and the best of days amazing!  He came to me at a time when I needed an un-yielding friend and companion and he always made me feel loved and needed.  He would never miss an opportunity to remind you when you had stopped petting him, that you weren't really done yet by putting his nose under your hand or rubbing his head on your leg, arm or any body part that was available.  He graciously traveled with me everywhere, though he hated the car, and everyone who we visited was better off for it.  He was an invaluable member of my family, my angel, my sweet boy and I will forever miss his soft eyes, chattering teeth, toothy grin and the rub of his head on my leg.    I love you my Miley Man...  go run in the fields...  eat as much grass as you want...   I can't wait to see you again on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Frieden

Frieden (Pazzo Frieden) was just one of Five greyhounds that have spent their retirement years at the Carlson home. Freiden spent his racing days at St.Croix Meadows race track at Hudson winning 79 feature races. He was back-to-back track champion in 1995 and 1996. He also tied a national greyhound record by winning 29 races in a row. But his flair for greyhound adoption programs was unmatched. He loved going to meet & greets and represented the greyhound group with the pride of his new job after his racing days. He would work the crowd so that everyone near him could pet him. He was a champion on the track and off the track as an ambassador for retired greyhounds. We will always cherish our time with Frieden.    Carl Carlson

Buddy 1996 - 2009

Buddy (PW's Stat Bart) was special in many ways: He was adopted on the last day of racing at St. Croix Meadows dog track after a successful career, he had wonderful ears that went whichever way the wind was blowing and he was a gentleman of the highest caliber. He had such soft, thick fur that petting him was like stroking a bunny. We attended many Meet and Greets and other NLGA events and he was always well-behaved…except for once eating the lime out of a friend's margarita. Buddy was a marvelous ambassador for greyhound adoption and left his mark on many hearts.
